S.O.D. "Sidewalks, Fences and Walls" by Solomon Burke

1/23/2019 Often called the Bishop of soul and other honorary titles, this American singer and preacher performed for more than five decades. He can be thanked for connecting the gap between R&B and soul, and still remains a powerful influence.

Born James Solomon McDonald in 1940 in Philadelphia, he left us in October 2010 while in the Netherlands.  He had many hits during the 60s, altogether releasing 39 studio albums and 67 singles.  Burke had an incredible entrepreneurial spirit and owned many businesses, including funeral homes, eateries, a limousine service, popcorn business and others.  At his concerts he would sell food backstage to the other African-American performers that could not get served in the local restaurants.  Nothing was for free however. He certainly made a profit in life while being a man of God.
