2009: For false imprisonment of a male escort, Boy George spent 15 months behind bars.  What kind of imprisonment are we talking here?

1958: On the Perry Como show, The Everly Brothers made their British television debut.

1967: "Let's Spend the Night Together" went to "Let's Spend Some Time Together," due to being on the Ed Sullivan Show, where you just couldn't say that stuff.

1972: In Honolulu, Elvis put on a live concert by television and broke the record for the largest audience for a TV show.

1968: It was discovered by Dr. K.C. Pollack that rock and roll concerts could damage teenage ears.  Isn't that how they wanted it?

1998: Lead vocalist, Kevin Dubrow of Quiet Riot was set free from jail.  He threw a fan on top of another fan at a concert which broke that fan's leg.  Oh my, he didn't pay for the fine set forth by a judge.  Really just a normal day in the heavy metal world.

1997: Receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame was James Brown.

1979: Lots of musicians got together to play a benefit concert in New York called "A Gift Of Song."  It benefited UNICEF and consisted of  ABBA, Rod Stewart, Earth, Wind & Fire and a few others.

1978: Their first U.S. concert took place.  That's right, we're talking about the Sex Pistols.  Things would never be the same again.  In a good way though.

1978: In Minnesota, in the city of Minneapolis, Prince made his solo debut.  It is his home town.

1998: A skiing accident took the life of Sonny Bono.

2016: Most musicians, a good percentage of them, would give you the shirt off their back.  They're artists, remember, so many of them have been without.  Just don't nag them about their trade and be nice.

1710, 1720, 1874: How can anyone ever get tired of this except people who do not appreciate music.  Wait!!  What purpose do those people serve?

1936: Billboard magazine published the 1st pop music chart which was based on National sales.

1965: CBS purchased the Fender Guitar Company from Leo Fender for $13 million.

1972: The progressive rock band Yes released "Roundabout."

1964: On the Jack Paar Show, a part of a film was shown featuring The Beatles performing "She Loves You." This became their first U.S. television appearance.

1970: Leaving the Monkees was Davy Jones.

2016:  Not music's most exciting day.  I will however be playing the Djembe Drum this evening.

1953: Hank Williams passed on to Music Heaven.

1966: The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet featuring Ricky Nelson filmed its last episode.  Definitely a milestone.

1979: A fan threw a fire-cracker on stage at a Bruce Springsteen concert and Bruce's cheek was torn open.  Did he catch it in his mouth?

1980: Being an ugly musician is cool.

1982: ABBA performed for the last time which took place in Stockholm.

1975: Setting a world record was Elvis Presley, pulling in the most dough for one performance by one artist at the Silverdome in Pontiac, MI.  The sum was $800,000.

1976: At Pease Air Force Base in Portsmouth, NH, The Cars played their very first concert.

1984: In an auto accident that took place in England, Def Leppard drummer, Rick Allen lost his left arm.

1985: A plane crash occurring in Texas near DeKalb, killed Ricky Nelson along with 6 others.

1973: Arrested for marijuana possession was Tom Johnson of the Doobie Brothers.  You can't arrest someone who has that name as a business. 

2015: Frosty the Snowman was just a freakin' snowman.  He couldn't walk and he couldn't talk and he couldn't save the day.

1966: The Who was the special guest of the last showing of "Ready Steady Go!" on the BBC-TV Network.

1972: The film "Imagine" by John Lennon debuted on National TV.

1977: Changing his name to Yusuf Islam and converting to Islam was Cat Stevens.

1977: All Islamic music fans lost interest in Cat Stevens.

1968: The Animals said goodbye to Eric Burdon as he took his musical aura and the rest of him, down the road.

2015: Since sometime in the 50s to date, maybe it was the 40s, who knows, the tambourine is the official instrument of non-musicians everywhere.

1968: In Memphis, TN., Janis Joplin did her first solo performance.

1970: President Nixon had Elvis as a guest at the White House.  Elvis offered his services to help fight drug trafficking and gave Tricky Dick a chrome-plated Colt .45 pistol.  Nixon gave Elvis an authentic Narcotics Bureau badge.

1972: Giving their farewell performance in Detroit, MI was Martha Reeves & the Vandellas.

2015: On TV right now is The Sound of Music Sing-A-Long.  Some of my favorite things, screaming guitar solos & the blues.

1965; At the Astrodome in Houston, TX, the very first musicians to perform were Judy Garland and The Supremes. probably where the idea for "The Wiz" came from.

1969: On "The Tonight Show" with Johnny Carson, the marriage of Tiny Tim and Vicki Budinger took place, making television history.  It got better after that.

1997: People that were making a profit from downloading online copy-wrote material got deterred in the form of the No Electronic Theft Act, passed by President Clinton.

1969: In England, John Lennon gave his last live performance for the country in the form of a benefit concert for UNICEF.

1990-2015: People around the world browse the vinyl section in record stores, buy albums because it's cool, but have no record player.

1328: Any music developing at this time was an invention of a genre.

1873: Marie-Alphonse-Nicolas-Joseph Jongen.  Yes the extended name thing was going on even then.

1962: "Mixed-Up Confusion," Bob Dylan's first single, was released.

1972: Alice Cooper did some late night Christmas shopping at Alexander's department store in New York City.  They stayed open just for him.

1980: A 10 minute vigil was held in Central Park for John Lennon six days after his death at he request of Yoko Ono.  More then 100,000 people showed up.

1995: John Lennon had been spied on by the FBI determining whether he should be deported.  On this day the documents proving this were released from the White House.

1961: A contract was signed between The Beatles and Brian Epstein.

1993: Guitarist Slash, played a solo for Billy Joel's song, "Shameless" for Joel's concert.

1915: "The Voice," Frank Sinatra was born.

1949: Born- Paul Rodgers, lead vocalist of Bad Company.

1970: The Doors featured Jim Morrison on lead vocals for the last time.  This happened in New Orleans.

2015: While writing this, I thought some of you might like to know about a drink I discovered in Charleston, SC.  Start with a tasty bourbon or Irish whiskey of your choice, using as much as you like of course.  Add some citrus bitters, orange works especially well.  Tonight, however I'm using Aztec Chocolate (Chocolate should always be capitalized)  Top it off with real ginger beer, not necessarily alcoholic.  For an extra treat, shave in some fresh ginger.  Shaken, not stirred.

1976: Happening in the summer really, don't remember the day but I didn't want to forget this one.  I was 14 and had went an amusement park with a Baptist church group on a bus.  While there I had my face painted like Gene Simmons.  On the way home, much to the preacher's dismay, I sang KISS songs at full volume while dancing in the narrow isle.  My tongue did not fit the bill.

1980: After drummer, John Bonham" death, Page, Plant and Jones  made the announcement not to reform Led Zeppelin.

1988: Two days before his death, Roy Orbison performed for the last time "In Concert" in Akron, Ohio.

2001: "Kiss and Make-Up," Gene Simmons book was released.

1971: At Wilmington State Penitentiary, the men of death row were entertained by the band, Taj Mahal.

1973: The Who and some friends got locked up for a night after they destroyed a hotel room during a party after a show.  They should have gotten an award.

1986: In Birmingham, England, Annie Lennox while performing with the Eurythmics in front of 10,000 fans, yanked her bra off.  I missed it.

2000: The Smashing Pumpkins played the last concert of their career in Chicago.

2015: Everyone in the house-5 people are watching music videos in 3 different places.

1967: Released in the UK was the Jimi Hendrix Experience album "Axis: Bold as Love".

1976: The Sex Pistols used profanity, no way, on the British TV show "Today" while being interviewed.  A whole bunch of British cities banned them after that.  Quite an accomplishment. 

1997: Holding a note on his saxophone for 45 minutes and 47 seconds, Kenny G. set a record.

2006: Stretching his chin to an even more incredible length and using a boring household spoon to strike it, Jay Leno nailed sharps and flats of precise pitch.

1995: For stealing over 9 million bucks from musician, Sting, his former financial advisor was put in the slammer for 6 years.  That must have stung.

2015: A common sense poll was conducted showing that ages 12-30 preferred Classic Rock over all other music.  You know it's true!!

1951: Atlanta, Georgia is the location of Little Richard's first recording session.

1954: Elvis is heard live on the radio for the first time with the "Louisiana Hayride" show.  His fans could not see him moving.

1968: The third and final album, "Electric Ladyland" by the Jimi Hendrix Experience was released.

1972: Creedence Clearwater Revival broke up.

1977: Somewhere in the midwest during a high school football game, the marching band got tired of playing "When the Saints Go Marching In" and transitioned to Zeppelin's "Rock and Roll".  Some version of that is probably true.

1966: 14 hippies were found sleeping in a Volkswagen Beetle.  Today that would be a hoarding offense.

1969: A DJ played "Revolution #9" backwards, starting the "Paul is Dead" craze.

1970: At New York's Fillmore East, Billy Graham held a rock Memorabilia auction.  He sounds pretty cool to me.

1985: Ricky Wilson of the B-52s passed on to Punk Heaven.

1997: John Denver passed on to Country Heaven.

1997: In central Madrid square a Backstreet Boys concert was cancelled because of the heat.  Of the more then 7,000 fans there, around 300 girls had to be treated for some sort of heat exhaustion.  When the B-Boys heard of this, they probably said something like, "Yeah I'm so sure it was the heat from the sun, like right".

1984: Anne Murray became the first woman to receive the Country Music Association's Album of the Year Award for "A Little Good News".

1987: Chuck Berry was given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

1992: The U.S. Postal Service put ou t a stamp book with a bunch of musicians on it.

2014: With cameras being everywhere these days a rare moment was captured of a beautiful blue, green and white songbird letting some feces loose that happened to end up on a keyboardist's left shoulder.  This happened in Liverpool but despite the historic musical town, no further magical fusion between the artists was attempted.

October 7:

1950: The Frank Sinatra Show debuted.
