S.O.D. "Wuthering Heights" by Kate Bush

4/28/2016     Another example of an artist's debut single remaining their most popular work throughout their career.  Bush fought with her record label, EMI to release this as the first single from her debut album "The Kick Inside."  She eventually prevailed, showing an amazing amount of determination and courage.

The song is based on the 1847 novel of the same name, written by Emily Bronte.  Bush and Bronte share the same birthday.  Bronte's sister Charlotte, wrote Jane Eyre which came after Wuthering Heights.  Bronte died the next year and it was her only novel.  Bush wrote the song late one night in a few hours in the genre of art rock and released it in 1978.

Charting in 14 countries, it ranked #1 in five and made the top 10 in all but Austria.  Apparently American minds hit a bump in the road as it did not chart in the U.S.  Q Magazine placed it at #32 on their list of the 100 Greatest Singles of All Time.  Kate Bush has been active since 1975, also plays piano and keyboards, has won a ton of awards, released 10 studio albums and is still a driving artistic force, which she displays in this video.
