S.O.D. "Rock and Roll Hoochie Coo" by Rick Derringer

2/24/2016     Although Derringer wrote and later performed the song, it was first recorded and released in 1970 by Johnny Winter.  Both artists actually recorded several versions with Derringer's coming in 1973 and climbing to #23 on the US charts.  This version remains a staple of 70s rock music and classic rock radio.  The title represents the "Rock and Roll" that Derringer was bringing into the picture and "Hoochie Koo" for the king of blues sensibility that Johnny had to maintain.

Derringer and Winter also performed the song together during different concerts and in 1972 included Johnny's brother Edgar Winter (Composer of the instrumental, "Frankenstein") for Edgar's album "Roadwork".  The song has appeared in many films and has been covered by quite a few artists including a 1975 live performance by Van Halen that is still officially unreleased.   Derringer and the Winter brothers have worked extensively together composing music.
