S.O.D. "Now and Forever" by Richard Marx

10/28/2015     Here is a multi-instrumentalist who is now in the record books after becoming the first solo artist have his first 7 singles rank in the Top 5 on the U.S. Charts.  He has also written #1 hits in 4 consecutive decades including for other musicians.  His most recent was "Long Hot Summer" for Keith Urban.  

     This 1994 soft rock ballad is from the album "Paid Vacation" and was written for his former wife, Cynthia Rhodes.  You may remember her from the films Dirty Dancing as "Penny".  She was in a few other movies including Flashdance and as a cop alongside Tom Select in futuristic film, Runaway.  The song ranked in the Top 10 on 3 U.S. charts, keeping the #1 spot on the Adult Contemporary chart for 11 weeks.

     Richard Marx's career has spanned 3.5 decades and in 2011 he dabbled in some comedy with the internet comedy duo, Rhett and Link.  They developed a public endorsement for a colon cleansing spa in San Francisco.  

     Born to a musical family, his mother was a singer and his dad was not only a jazz musician but had a lucrative jingle company.
