S.O.D. "Paris, Paris, Paris" by Josephine Baker

2/3/2023 This Missouri born singer, dancer, and actor renounced her US citizenship in 1937, and made France her home for the rest of her days. Dubbed the Black Venus, and a few other names, her performances, stunned the audiences in Paris. Her costume, a short skirt of artificial bananas, and a beaded necklace, would become popular throughout the roaring 20s. Born Freda Josephine McDonald in 1906, she would eventually become a civil rights activist, and French resistance agent. Many have been inspired by this unique woman, and you can find two biographies.

S.O.D. "The Hucklebuck" by Chubby Checker

2/1/2023 Many artists have their own version of this jazz and R&B dance song. We’re going with Checker’s version mainly because of his success with it, and his ability as an entertainer. The song became quite the dance craze in 1949, with people literally dancing until they had no energy, dropping to the floor. Ernest Evans (Chubby Checker) is still with us at age 81, and still active in music. In 2015, he partnered with Howard Perl Entertainment, and Hard Rock Rocksino, forming the foundation, Rock and Roll to The Rescue. This is a music show that raises money and adopts rescue animals in need.

S.O.D. "If Your Dad Doesn't Have a Beard, You've Got Two Mums" by The Beards

1/31/2023 Let’s not worry about the real names of these band members. Their stage aliases are much more fun. We have Nathaniel Beard, John Beardman, Jr, Johann Beardraven, and Facey McStubblington. The Australian folk rock and comedy group started out as The Dairy Brothers in 2003, changing to The Beards in 2005, and active till 2016. Believe it or not, most of their songs are about beards.

S.O.D. "Blurry" by Puddle of Mudd

1/15/2023 From their 2001 debut album, “Come Clean,” this post grunge/alternative rock song was a huge hit for the group. The song was originally called “Electron,” and lead singer Wes Scantlin reworked it into “Blurry” during some hotel time in Los Angeles. The song has to do with the music business pretty much controlling your life after you sign with a label. Two former Puddle of Mudd members separately cowrote.
